Turn your passion into income! Taught by full time, licensed fly fishing guides,  Muskegon River Outfitters Guide School is the largest fly fishing guide training facility in the mid west. Located within an easy driving distance of Grand Rapids and the Pere Marquette, Grand, and Muskegon Rivers.  Our fishing guide school specializes in Drift boat / Jet boat training and is designed to give each student a real appreciation for the guiding profession while preparing you for a new and rewarding career. This program draws on the decades of experience from our USCG trained, guiding staff and is designed to teach you all of the essential skills and procedures, giving you a sound foundation to build your fishing guide career.

The course will consist of six and one-half days of thorough training at the cost of $2,500 per person.
Tuition for 2014 will be $2,500.  Last year’s students had a very high job placement with lodges in Alaska and many states in the lower 48 including Montana, Colorado and Wyoming. The average pay including tips was $3,400/month. We can provide references, and help you land your dream job!

Schedule:
  • Day 1 (Sunday): Arrive by noon, Lunch, CPR/First Aid Training, Casting
  • Day 2 (Monday): Drift boat training, Jet boat training
  • Day 3 (Tue.): Mechanics, Drift boat training, Jet boat training
  • Day 4 (Wed.): Fly tying, Drift boat training, Jet boat training
  • Day 5 (Thurs.) Overview of instruction manual, Drift boat training, Jet boat training
  • Day 6 (Fri) Overview of entire class, Drift boat training, Jet boat training
  • Day 7 (Sat.) Finish resume, Final interview, Lunch, Course ends
Each day spent on the river drift and jet boat training will include client interaction and honing your fishing skills. We will also help you build a resume and get it to the lodges and outfitters who hire our graduates each year.
